Job description

Performance Drone Works (PDW) is building the next generation of tactical robotic systems used across defense, national security, and public safety missions. Now, we’re entering a new phase of growth and are looking for a Mission Support Specialist ensures the operational readiness, sustainment, and effective employment of unmanned aerial systems in support of mission objectives. This role focuses on technical maintenance, diagnostics, and field support to maintain mission capability in both CONUS and OCONUS environments. This role requires significant travel (75%).


What You’ll Do

  • Conduct routine inspections, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance on UAS platforms and mission-critical support equipment to ensure operational readiness.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, electronics, and software issues under field and garrison conditions.
  • Test, calibrate, and validate UAS components to meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide rapid-response, on-site, and remote technical support to maintain mission continuity.
  • Maintain precise and compliant records of maintenance, repairs, and operational activities in accordance with DoD and contractor requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, logistics, and operations teams to enhance sustainment workflows and technical processes.
  • Support field deployments by preparing, staging, and configuring UAS platforms and support systems for operational use.
  • Perform post-mission inspections and assessments to identify and address wear, damage, or performance degradation.
  • Recommend and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability and reduce downtime.


Requirements

  • Current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electronics, mechanical systems, and integrated software architectures.
  • Skilled in the use of diagnostic equipment, calibration tools, and maintenance procedures for mission-critical assets.
  • Excellent communication skills for reporting, documentation, and coordination with operational leadership.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and organizational discipline in operational environments.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and working in diverse and austere field conditions, including extended deployments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or an associate degree in aviation, electronics, or related field preferred.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance as required

Preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in UAS field operations and maintenance, preferably in military or defense contracting environments.
  • Familiarity with mission planning software, GPS navigation systems, telemetry tools, and geospatial data applications.
  • Proven proficiency with multiple UAS platforms, including fixed-wing, multirotor, and hybrid systems.


Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about regularly throughout the day and lift/carry up to 50 pounds. Must have manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones. Must be physically capable of walking between the office, flight, and production areas and attending events or meetings off-site as needed.

Work Environment
This position typically operates in an office setting, flight line, and manufacturing environment. This role requires use of standard office equipment and will require frequent travel to customer locations or facilities. This position may have exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and non-climate-controlled environments. May require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) depending on the environment. This is a fast-paced work environment and requires cross departmental collaboration with independent and team-based responsibilities.
