Job description
As the Head of Mechanical & Structural Design, you will have overall technical and organizational responsibility for the mechanical and structural development activities within the team.
You will lead a team of mechanical design, structural analysis, and multibody dynamics simulation engineers, providing technical leadership and ensuring high engineering standards across the team.
You will drive mechanical and structural development throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through testing, validation, and product improvement, working closely with Flight Physics, Testing, Hardware & Software, Supply Chain, and Program Management.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Mechanical & Structural Design Team, including recruitment, resource and workload planning, budgeting, and performance management.
- Provide technical leadership in mechanical and structural design, composite materials, structural dynamics, vibration, fatigue, durability, and high-speed rotating systems.
- Define and drive the mechanical and structural development strategy for CycloRotor propulsion systems and related technologies.
- Ensure design maturity and technical integrity through design reviews, engineering release processes, and approval of analyses, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Lead technical trade studies and engineering decisions for improved performance, reliability, weight, manufacturability and maintainability, cost & schedule.
- Identify and mitigate mechanical and structural technical risks throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Ensure structural integrity, durability, and dynamic behavior are appropriately demonstrated through analysis and testing.
- Define mechanical and structural validation requirements and support component, subsystem, and system-level test activities.
- Maintain a hands-on involvement in hardware development, supporting assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex technical issues.
- Establish and continuously improve engineering methodologies, processes, tools, and best practices within the team.
- Work with suppliers and external partners to support component development, manufacturing readiness, and technical problem solving.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of professional experience in mechanical and structural product development.
- 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including team management and development.
- Experience in aerospace, eVTOL, UAV, rotorcraft, propulsion systems, robotics, or other highly dynamic mechanical systems.
- Strong technical background in kinematics, mechanical design, structural mechanics, fatigue, vibration, structural dynamics, durability, and composite structures.
- Experience developing complex mechanical systems from concept through validation.
- Strong understanding of engineering development processes, design reviews, configuration management, and product lifecycle management.
- Ability to make sound engineering decisions while balancing technical performance, schedule, cost, risk, and available resources.
- Ability to balance hands-on technical involvement with engineering leadership responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills and an analytical, pragmatic, and solution-oriented mindset.
