Role details
$100,000 – $140,000
Flock is the leading safety technology platform, helping communities thrive by taking a proactive approach to crime prevention and security. Our hardware and software suite connects cities, law enforcement, businesses, schools, and neighborhoods in a nationwide public-private safety network. Trusted by over 5,000 communities, 4,500 law enforcement agencies, and 1,000 businesses, Flock delivers real-time intelligence while prioritizing privacy and responsible innovation.
We’re a high-performance, low-ego team driven by urgency, collaboration, and bold thinking. Working at Flock means tackling big challenges, moving fast, and continuously improving. It’s intense but deeply rewarding for those who want to make an impact.
With nearly $700M in venture funding and a $7.5B valuation, we’re scaling intentionally and seeking top talent to help build the impossible. If you value teamwork, ownership, and solving tough problems, Flock could be the place for you.
We are hiring a Aviation Support Engineer to serve as the technical backbone of our Drone as a First Responder (DFR) infrastructure. In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex robotic hardware and real-world operations, ensuring our fleet of automated docks and drones remains mission-ready. You will work closely with our Lead Aviation Support Engineer to master the current docking system while playing a critical role in the deployment, validation, and troubleshooting of our next-generation automated infrastructure.
In this position you will:
Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and software issues within our automated docking and charging systems.
Use remote diagnostic tools (Grafana, Sigma) to monitor fleet health and perform remote "tele-recovery" of grounded assets.
Participate in the hands-on "bring-up" and QA testing of new docking hardware, applying industrial automation principles to ensure 24/7 reliability.
Act as the primary feedback loop between field operations and the Engineering team, identifying actionable bugs and hardware improvements.
Create and maintain technical SOPs and troubleshooting guides to help scale our support capabilities as we grow.
The position requires candidates to work onsite at our Atlanta based manufacturing facility for hands-on hardware collaboration and field testing.
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
2–4 years of experience in industrial automation, robotics support, IoT device management, or a similar field-heavy engineering role.
Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments and basic command-line navigation.
Experience with hardware diagnostic tools (e.g., Multimeters, Oscilloscopes) and digital monitoring dashboards (e.g., Grafana, Sigma, or similar telemetry tools).
Demonstrated effective communication skills, specifically the ability to translate technical hardware failures into clear, actionable documentation.
Excellent teamwork skills with a proven ability to learn from senior leads and execute within a cross-functional environment.
Nice to have:
Experience with PLC programming or industrial control systems.
Familiarity with Git and an understanding of firmware/software deployment cycles.
Knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) or automated electromechanical systems.
FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (or a willingness to get one).
Feeling uneasy that you haven’t ticked every box? That’s okay; we’ve felt that way too. Studies have shown women and minorities are less likely to apply unless they meet all qualifications. We encourage you to break the status quo and apply to roles that would make you excited to come to work every day.
We prescribe 90 day plans and believe that good days lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as a Hardware Operations Engineer at Flock.
The First 30 Days
Learn about Flock’s hardware portfolio and achieve "Level 1" internal certification on existing dock systems.
Perform an in-person inspection of an Atlanta-based dock and shadow the Lead Engineer on remote troubleshooting sessions.
Set up your development environment and familiarize yourself with the firmware repos and DFR ecosystem.
The First 60 Days
Independently resolve Tier 2 hardware/software escalations for the docking system.
Attend a customer deployment to assist with physical hardware setup and field validation.
Define the camera locations and diagnostic views necessary for efficient remote teleoperation and troubleshooting.
90 Days & Beyond
Own the "Technical Support Playbook" and documentation for the rollout of next-generation docks.
Lead the bring-up process for a new dock unit, providing feedback to the UI/UX team to enable easier recovery and better "heartbeat" monitoring.
Transition into a Subject Matter Expert role, supporting the Lead Engineer on high-level architecture while maintaining fleet reliability.
In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary of $100,000-$140,000 as well as Flock Stock Options.
